Autumn Skincare Routine For Your Skin Type

As the season changes, so do our skincare needs! As the weather begins to get crisper and the green leaves transition into reds, yellows, and oranges, your skincare routine should also transition to ensure your best fall skin. The shift from summer’s heat to fall’s cooler, drier climate can affect your skin, making it essential to adjust your routine to keep your skin at its best.  
So, why change up your skincare routine? Summer weather often requires lightweight, hydrating products that protect against sun exposure and help manage oil production for most skin types. However, as the weather cools and humidity drops, your skin may start to lose moisture, leading to dryness, irritation, and a weakened skin barrier.
This makes fall the perfect time to incorporate more nourishing, moisture-rich products that protect against the elements and prepare your skin for the colder months ahead. So, how do summer vs. fall routines look? We've put together a few examples to show you how your skincare routine may change going from summer to fall. Check it out...
Dry Skin

Alright, let's hop into your full, fall skincare routine!

Dry Skin

In summer, your dry skin may have benefited from lightweight hydration. In Fall, step up the moisture levels:
  1. Cleanser: Switch to a gentle, hydrating cleanser like the Sweet Dreams Glow Balm or Moisturizing Body Oil & Facial Cleansing Oil to avoid stripping your skin of its natural oils.
  2. Toner: Continue using the Balancing Toner Mist to prep your skin, but consider layering with a hydrating mist if your skin feels extra dry.
  3. Serum: The Firming Serum or Awake Coffee Serum can provide deep nourishment. For fall, consider layering these with a hyaluronic acid serum for added hydration.
  4. Moisturizer: Upgrade to the Blue Tansy Ultra-Rich Moisturizer and top it off with the Sweet Dreams Glow Balm OR Baby & Mom Balm for an added moisture barrier.
  5. SPF: Don’t skip sunscreen! Even in fall, Daydream Mineral SPF protects your skin from UV damage.

 

Weekly applications:


Sensitive Skin


Fall can trigger sensitivity due to changes in temperature and humidity. Focus on calming and hydrating:
  1. Cleanser: Stick with the Clarifying Cleanser or an unscented oil cleanser like Moisturizing Body Oil & Facial Cleansing Oil.
  2. Toner: If your skin tolerates it, keep using the Balancing Toner Mist. Otherwise, skip this step and go straight to serums.
  3. Serum: Use the Awake Coffee Serum, which is gentle and soothing, perfect for calming your skin in the cooler weather.
  4. Moisturizer: The Blue Tansy Ultra-Rich Moisturizer provides the hydration needed to combat fall dryness.
  5. SPF: Continue with Daydream Mineral SPF for sun protection.
  6. The Eye Balm ™
  7. Brow Styling Wax & Clay

 
*Add in the Sweet Dreams Glow Balm (unscented option) OR Baby & Mom Balm between steps 4 and 5 if you need an extra layer of protection!

 

Weekly applications:

  • Depending on how sensitive your skin is, you may not need any special routines throughout the week. Our skincare is nourishing, but some sensitive skin gals do well just sticking to a more basic routine that works for their skin. If you are dealing with blemish, try our Blemish Balm or Revive Clay Mask as spot treatments. Many sensitive skin gals can handle the Revive Clay Mask on their whole face, but I would start out using it as a spot treatment to see how your skin reacts.
 
 

Acne-Prone Skin


Fall can be tricky for acne-prone skin, as dryness can lead to increased oil production. Here’s how to balance it:
  1. Cleanser: Use the Clarifying Cleanser to maintain clean, clear skin without stripping it.
  2. Toner: The Balancing Toner Mist helps control excess oil and bacteria that can cause breakouts.
  3. Serum: Incorporate the Purifying Serum for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, perfect for managing acne.
  4. Moisturizer: Opt for the Repair Cream, a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer that provides hydration without clogging pores.
  5. SPF: The Daydream Mineral SPF is ideal for providing moisture and protection without causing breakouts.
  6. Blemish Balm Spot Treatment

  8. Brow Styling Wax & Clay

 

Weekly applications: 

  • Detox Clay Mask, Coffee Face Polish, and the Blemish Balm. My recommendation is to use the detox clay mask once a week, and then the Coffee Face Polish once a week. I would start off with no more than two exfoliating treatments in total a week. Keep it simple and consistent! You don't want to over-exfoliate or interfere with your natural sebum production by overusing face masks/clays or scrubs!
 

Combination/Oily Skin


As the weather cools, your skin might produce less oil, but it still needs proper care:
  1. Cleanser: The Clarifying Cleanser will help balance oil production.
  2. Toner: Keep using the Balancing Toner Mist to help control oil and add a layer of hydration.
  3. Serum: The Purifying Serum can be used as needed to manage oily areas while providing nourishment.
  4. Moisturizer: Stick with the Repair Cream or use the Daydream Mineral SPF alone if your skin feels hydrated enough.
  5. SPF: Continue with Daydream Mineral SPF to protect against sun damage.
  6. The Eye Balm ™
  7. Brow Styling Wax & Clay

 

Weekly applications:

  • Try the Revive Clay Mask once, no more than twice a week at first. This helps to gently exfoliate and cleanse your skin! You can also try the Detox Clay Mask and see which one our our masks works best for your skin. You can also alternate between the two. Also, Try incorporating our Purifying Facial Serum periodically throughout the week or as an overnight treatment. This oil is designed to purify the skin (hence the name!) without clogging pores or feeling greasy. See how your skin does with this one. Also, our Coffee Facial Polish could be a good option for you, but just be mindful of how much you are exfoliating with scrubs, polishes, and masks throughout the week. We don't want to strip your skin! Start off with just two exfoliating treatments a week, max.
 

Aging Skin


Fall is the time to focus on intense hydration and protection against environmental damage:
  1. Cleanser: Incorporate an oil-based cleanser like the Sweet Dreams Glow Balm to prevent moisture loss.
  2. Toner: The Balancing Toner Mist will help prep your skin for the following layers of hydration.
  3. Serum: Use both the Awake Coffee Serum in the morning for its brightening effects and the Firming Serum at night for its anti-aging properties.
  4. Moisturizer: Layer the Blue Tansy Ultra-Rich Moisturizer with the Sweet Dreams Glow Balm to lock in moisture and smooth fine lines.
  5. SPF: Continue using Daydream Mineral SPF to protect against sun and environmental damage.
  6. The Eye Balm ™
  7. Brow Styling Wax & Clay

  • Under-eye treatment, exfoliate (no more than 2x a week), oil cleanse, and Gua Sha! With normal skin, you can have fun doing an array of weekly treatments!
